J24 Racing
[last updated 2006-01-21]
The company that I work for has a sailing team .. yep - go figure! The program is run through the Manhattan Yacht Club where we rent a J24 for the season. Every Tuesday a few of us hop on a subway and go downtown to the North Cove and race against 20 other J24 all owned by MYC.
We don't usually do all that well. I mean - we got a 1st once, a 2nd, and a few 3rds but many more 15ths and 18ths. It is difficult. Both because there are teams that are actually quite good, but also because we have to balance the desire to win with the point on the team: to take as many people out sailing as we can.
The pictures below were taken during the 2005 MYC Short Handed Championships .. fancy title for a double handed J24 race. I sailed with ibcrewing (he pulled all the strings and did the hard work). We got 3rd which was apparently the best ever placement in the regatta by a corporate team...
Photos by John Zwinck. They may seem a little grainy, but they were taken while it was dark out and from quite a distance. Amazing - actually - that they came out at all.
